About This Place

Located in the heart of Seattle’s vibrant University District, Little Duck stands out as a true treasure for lovers of authentic Northeastern Chinese cuisine. This charming Chinese restaurant invites diners to embark on a culinary journey filled with bold flavors and traditional recipes that feel like home-cooked meals crafted with care and passion.

Little Duck’s menu is a thoughtfully curated homage to Dongbei (Northeastern China) classics, showcasing standout dishes that delight both the eyes and palate. Among the favorites, the Twice Cooked Pork (M1 锅包) offers a perfect balance of tender, richly flavored pork slices with a crispy finish that leaves a satisfying crunch in every bite. Equally captivating is the Eggplant with Chilli and Potato 地三鲜 (V1), where silky eggplants blend harmoniously with soft potatoes and a gentle heat from green pepper, creating layers of comforting textures and tastes.

For those seeking a mix of vegetable and meat dishes, Little Duck’s Braised Pork Ribs with Potato and Beans (M8 炖排) epitomizes hearty, soul-warming fare, simmered to tender perfection, while the Mapo Tofu (V3 麻婆腐) delivers fiery, silky tofu enveloped in a rich, spicy sauce that invigorates the senses. Another treasure worth trying is the Garlic Pea Shoot—a vibrant, fresh vegetable dish that cleanses and refreshes the palate between richer courses.

Appetizers at Little Duck elevate the experience starting with Shenyang-style House Special Salad (A01 沈阳花菜), which combines crisp textures and tangy, savory notes in a refreshing bite-sized introduction to the meal. Dumpling lovers will rejoice in flavorful, juicy pockets of meat and seasoning that transport them straight to a grandmother’s kitchen in Dongbei, touching both nostalgia and craving. Shrimp fans can indulge in the Salt and Pepper Shrimp (M14 椒盐虾), a dish that boasts a tantalizing crispiness paired with just the right peppery kick.

The restaurant’s ambiance complements its culinary offerings beautifully. The welcoming atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, reflecting the homestyle nature of the dishes. Guests often comment on the friendly and attentive staff who enhance the overall experience, making diners feel like part of the family. The relaxed vibe coupled with generous portions ensures that every visit is as satisfying emotionally as it is gastronomically.

Little Duck earns glowing praise from its patrons. Michelle Wang calls it a “hidden gem for authentic Northeastern Chinese cuisine,” noting the bold flavors, hearty portions, and truly homemade feel. Ariel Li shares that the dishes “made me feel like I was back at my grandma’s home,” a testament to the authenticity and soulfulness ingrained in each plate. Owen Thompson highlights the attentive service and convenient parking, while Ryan DiCicco emphasizes the uniqueness of the menu compared to other local Chinese spots, recommending Mushroom with Vinegar and Twice Cooked Pork as must-tries.

For anyone craving the rich, rustic flavors of Dongbei cuisine served in a welcoming setting with genuine hospitality, Little Duck offers a deeply satisfying, authentic experience. Whether it’s a casual lunch or a relaxed dinner with friends or family, this restaurant captures the heart of Northeastern China’s culinary traditions with every dish.

This place is a hidden gem for authentic Northeastern Chinese cuisine! The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and everything tastes homemade. The dumplings are perfectly juicy, guo bao rou is a must try! The staff is friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. If you’re craving real Dongbei flavors, this is the spot. Highly recommend!

This place in U District is a gem. Very quick service and the food was very unique compared to other Chinese cuisine in the area. Would highly recommend the mushrooms with vinegar, twice cooked pork slices, and eggplant with potato.

Food is quite decent and generous portions for the price. Definitely a plus they have parking here. Service wasn't bad in the usual sense, but the guy working the counter seemed like he was maybe family filling in or something, it just seemed like he never worked at a restaurant before.

I'm torn on the food as I had one alright dish and one very good dish. The spicy shrimp dish (reccomend) was very crispy and not too spicy. The fried udon noodles with beef wasn't very flavorful but was a large portion. Ordering is done all through an app. The place is small and doesn't have much to offer for visual appeal.

Loved the crispy pork! The mixed chicken bones were ok - the chili sauce doesn’t taste great. Other dishes were fine - maybe they can use a bit more salt.
